Tiger Woods all week spoke about his improved ball control – than letting him down when he needed it most.

Woods looked like the Tiger of old on the first three rounds at the Abu Dhabi Championship, stringing together a trio of rounds below par before an even 72 in the final Sunday to finish in a tie for third place behind winner Robert Rock and US Open Champion Rory McIlroy shoot at.

The 117th-ranked shot 70 for an overall rock 275 McIlroy (69) beat by a shot. Woods was a further shot back with Thomas Bjorn (68) and Graeme McDowell (68). The 18-year-old Italian Matteo Manassero (69) and George Coetzee of South Africa (70) were another shot back.

“Today, I give myself enough not only looks,” Woods said. “Most of my more putts were lag more putts. I didn’t drive the ball in as many fairways as I should have … It was a day I was just a touch from the tee and that is why I couldn’t get the ball close enough. ”
